10 great Facebook games you've never heard of

As we've noted, Facebook's game page is a bit of a taxanomic nightmare. The category system cuts precisely two ways: you can check out what's been added recently, or what's most popular, which entails wading through either 20 pages of flimsy, badly translated guff or 20 pages of, well, Zynga.

That's a shame, because the occasional gold speck does float out of the muck, and unless you go prospectin' every day you're going to miss out. We've done you the favour of dredging up 10 of the best. Aren't we nice, eh?

UPDATE: Facebook has tweaked the games pages since we wrote this post: there are now six whole categories for your appreciation.

Bad Apples

Bejeweled with a twist - besides squashing trios of tasty fruit to fill up your juice tube, you must avoid squishing rotten specimens.

Crazy Taxi

Speed down the highway, switching lanes and leapfrogging other cars.

Guitar God

A devastatingly high quality Guitar Hero rip-off, complete with streaming footage of real-life bands.

Kick the Buffoon

Bizarre but beautiful 3D French endeavour in which you try to backslap a courtly jester across an entire kingdom.

Rox

Superbly simple mouse-controlled schmup. Click rapdily to fire, hold to use your shield.

The Shell Game

The old "which cup is it under" trick in Facebook form. How fast are your peepers?

Ski Simulator

Nail the gates, dodge the trees and get to the end of the course as quickly as possible.

Square Madness 2

Scoop up black squares with your reticule whilst avoiding the red ones.

Sushi Wars

Graphically unremarkable but well-rounded cooking sim. You might learn a bit about Japan in the process.

Worm Warrior

Get medieval on the local worm population before they devour the contents of your larder.
