Not every escape game is set in a humdrum, everyday studio apartment, dingy basement or paisley drawing room. Just as well, really, or we'd have tired of the genre long, long before the idea of cracking a keycode ever lost its allure.

What's this, a recording studio? Why's my hair purple? Who's the chap in the mixing booth?

6. Hotel 626



Haunted house shenanigans and real video footage aplenty. Only playable between 6pm and 6am, but you can always cheat by changing your computer clock.

7. Magical Sphere Escape



Like being trapped inside a Space-Odyssey-influenced New Age concept album. Warm up that third eye...

8. Onamis



Fumble your way free of a mostly monochrome, Cold-War-ish nuclear bunker.

9. Escape Game of RPG



The world of Japanese role-playing is a nice place to visit, but you wouldn't want to live there. Too many blob monsters.
