There's no better place to celebrate Christmas than on Facebook, with the possible exception of the Playboy Mansion. Our latest Dear Facebook editorial covers some of the top Chrimbo offerings from the hottest app developers out there. We'll keep you posted as more arrive.
Dear Facebook: what are you doing for Christmas?
FarmVille has just unveiled a free special item, the "Holiday Tree". You'll find it in your gift box. Plant one of these suckers out and friends can leave presents beneath it, just like in reality. Unlike in reality, you can't sneak a peek beneath the wrapping paper in advance of the big day - gifts remain shut tight till 24th December. The tree will grow and flourish depending on the number of gifts you receive.
Facebook yokels will also find a slew of new Saint-Nick-themed items in the markets, including a giant snow globe and limited edition flower crops like the Poinsettia.
Restaurant City has a cute range of holiday treats, including snowy floor tiles, festive chair and table sets, jars of candy sticks, snowflake wallpaper and (for outdoor eateries) pine trees. Our pick of the litter is Frosty the Snowman. Visit the in-game store for more.
YoVille's knocked out a wide selection of Santa-stic gear and furniture, including big furry stockings, Gingerbread, elf and Santa costumes, holly wreathes, Kintara candles, giant nutcrackers, lawn ornaments, chains of fairy lights and what appears to be a frozen cowpat. Expect more where that came from as Christmas Eve approaches.
Pet Society's giving away some bizarre piscine Christmas confections and decorations, the latest of which are the Gingerbreadfish, Santahatfish and Giftwrappedfish. Rather stomach-churning concoctions, we're sure you'll agree, but hey! Anything goes when you're oh so cunningly leveraging the ole' brand name. You'll need to bust out your line and rod to grab these morsels, of course.
Besides seasonal tank decorations, FishVille hasn't quite made its mind up on holiday offers yet. There may be a feature to send gifts that can't be opened till Christmas day. Zynga will also probably relax its stringent implementation of fish mortality over the break, so you can wolf down roast potatoes without worrying that your pet is wasting away.
Mafia Wars is throwing a big old Christmas bash - literally at times - from 18th to 24th December. During that period, every job you complete or fight you get into may net you a holiday gift box. And they say crime doesn't pay... There will also be an extra-special featured job on the app's homepage.
Finally, why not add a Christmas countdown animation to your profile with this app. The production values aren't exactly jaw-dropping, but it's a nice way to stoke up some seasonal enthusiasm among friends/stalkers.
