Level Up

Level Up is a fabulously pixelly platformer with role-playing elements.

Your character, "The Girl", awakens one day to the sound of someone crash-landing on her garden fence. The trespasser turns out to be a boy with severe amnesia and one of those ever-so-dramatic fringes.

Luckily, you can restore this wayward soul's memory (and with it, perhaps, details of his lawyer/insurer) by collecting magical gemstones from the surrounding landscape. Use the arrow keys to move and X to jump.

The twist is that performing an action - be it scrutinising a post box or standing still for five minutes - will make you statistically better at that action. After a few minutes on the hop, for instance, you'll notice that you can jump rather further and higher.

There are bosses and NPCs armed with tradeable skills deeper in. The writing is pleasantly self-reflexive.

Recent platforming doozies include JayIsGames favourite Small Worlds and the sprawling Robin the Archer in Pixieland. Also, have you tried keeping a drug addict on the straight and narrow?
