Having just thrown a mini-tirade about animal rights, we're now going to ask you to shoot some.

Elona Shooter is a bizarre but immensely playable mixture of defence game and RPG. It stars you, a castle, blacksmiths, innkeepers, soldiers and a horde of inexplicably murderous animals.

Each day pits you against the furred and feathered masses in straightforward click-shooty action. Stop the creatures overrunning your barricades, and make sure you take down the ringleader when he/she arrives. Space bar reloads, number keys change weapon.

In the evening, you can rest up, repair the walls, buy, sell or modify your weapons and items, recruit fire support for the frontline and explore the town itself.

I'm not sure what's more mystifying here - that your neighborhood's livestock should be up in arms or that there's so much science to destroying them. Go figure.
