No siree. Despite the incredible success of Sega's officially-endorsed Olympics game series, starring gaming's two most famous mascots, other game makers reckon there's still room for more 'traditional' athletics in gaming - without silly colourful characters and out-of-place moustaches.
The new game is called Summer Athletics 2009. In shops you can find fully-featured boxed versions for PC, Wii and Xbox 360, but to whet your appetite, they've also put out a free-to-play web based version of the game as well. It's got hurdles, javelin, pole vault and shooting (the full game has loads more). I tripped up on most of the hurdles but maybe I'll fare better in the other events when I have a go in a minute.
Judging by the music that streams in from the game's official site, the soundtrack is a cut above what you'd expect, which is always a nice surprise. If you enjoy the free web version and decide to go buy the full game, hopefully the graphics and gameplay will sort your gaming needs too. For now, see if you care or not by playing the web version.
