So it seems Transformers star and widely-touted future Tomb Raider Megan Fox is a serious fan of videogames.

No really. This isn't another spot of cynical celeb promotion (though truth be told, Megan is currently pimping the Transformers 2 game) - she actually, properly likes 'em.

How can we tell? It's all in the fine details. Item of evidence #1: she knows what a Mortal Kombat fatality is. Speaking (ironically) to family gaming site What They Play, Megan confessed to being "badass" at the notoriously brutal fighting game.

"I have that down and I don't cheat. That game just works well with my brain," she said, "The way my brain fires signals works well with how that game works. And I'm just really good."

And modest with it. Item of evidence #2: she knows what Viva Pinata is.

"I also like to go back to a game called Viva Pinata every once in a while, which is really embarrassing," Megan went on. "But it's kind of addicting. You're nursing this garden of piñatas and it's a lot of fun."

It's one of our guilty pleasures too, Meg. Item of evidence #3: her first gaming console wasn't a mainstream-courting Wii or ditzy pink DS Lite, but a Super Nintendo Entertainment System. A real console, in other words, not some hyper-populist tat.

(Granted, her first game was Aladdin rather than Super Mario World, but you can't have everything.)

For those not in the know, ownership and knowledge of Viva Pinata, a SNES and Mortal Kombat will get you into the average nerd convention free of charge. Providing you bring your own Doritos, anyway.

Item of evidence #4 (aka "I rest my case"): Meg understands how games work. Discussing multiplayer sessions on LEGO Star Wars, the luscious Decepticon-basher observed that "the one thing I don't like about that game is that if one person is lagging behind and wants to check something out, and you're running ahead, you drag the screen with you.

"You can't stay separate when you're playing on a team together. That becomes annoying."

We know salaried game reviewers who don't sink to that level of detail. Hats off to you, Megan.
